What is SMACENTER?
SMACENTER has been a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation since the 1960's. Our primary mission is to provide quality art education through weekly classes in a variety of media. Our season runs from April through October of each year. In addition, SMACENTER offers programming for children, specialty weekends for groups, rental of the building and gallery showings. Primary funding for building overhead and staff is derived from class fees while building restoration funds come from private foundations and the State of Nevada, Commission on Cultural Affairs. SMACENTER is unique in that artists are able to lodge in our 15 rooms while attending class. SMACENTER is located in Virginia City, Nevada (about 25 miles from Reno, Nevada) in the high desert. Spectacular scenery, clean air, wonderful sunsets and sunrises are the norm in this part of the world. The building is open for guided tours during the season from 11 am to 4 pm, Tuesday through Sunday. Pay us a vist! The office telephone number is 775 847-7774.
