Karen Kreyeski
Silver City, Nevada

My work had either been landscape or people oriented.  I live and play in the mountains or see them in the distance as I drive through the desert, but I am never without them.  I paint what that feels and looks like.  I have a times felt isolated in the ruralness of my home.  I paint about the isolation of people within their relationships.  Periodically I will travel to a humid or tropical climate.  Its of interest then to see my palette and focus react to the movement of water or the heaviness of high humidity.  Some of these changes influence the work I do here in Nevada.  My canvas becomes my body, soaking up that which has been so remiss.  Bringing this same fluidity to the high desert is a challenge.  For Karen's images, click here.

Carol Brown
Carson City, Nevada

The process of printmaking allows me to be creative and to experiment with various techniques, resulting in multiple, hand-pulled original works of art which I sign and number.

The elements of art and principles of design I learned in art school and the essence of my life experiences inspire me and are incorporated into my work.  For inspiration, I seek out museums, explore nature, and study landscapes where I live and travel.  Flowers, leaves, seed pods, the four seasons, sea shells, clouds and weather patterns are themes that influence my art.

My work is about the process of making art.  The images begin as drawings.  I carve them into wood and print in the Japanese moku hanga tradition.  The completed prints are minimal in nature, but saturated with color using Japanese woodblock printing techniques. For Carol's images, click here.

Sidne Teske
Tuscarora, Nevada

Many people that I talk with tell me that the desert is boring, grey and brown, no trees, nothing to look at.  How odd, I think, the desert I see is full of color.  Sometimes subtle, sometimes harsh, but not boring.

When I am out painting I am still challenged by the colors around me.  I have had to learn that what I have in my boxes of pastels will in no way reproduce what I see.  I can only approximate.  But what is around me is so full of life and brilliant color.

The colors I see are out there.  It tickles me when people come back to me to tell me that they have seen what I see when they are out in the country.  I like to think that maybe what I make helps people to look.
